So far, the Fair Deal has opened up access to affordable nursing home care but what about the person who wants to remain living at home? Where is the fair deal for them? Nursing homes are busy places. Staff are constantly occupied with necessary and important work. Not everyone wants or needs this level of residential care. What about the person who chooses to remain living quietly and safely in familiar surroundings full of memories and familiar faces amongst neighbours and community? What is the government doing for them? Where is the Fair Deal for home care?

The HSE Home Care Grant is not the solution. This grant is means tested, not universally available, and subject to constant cut backs.
